It's an exciting time for me at the moment, as I'm in the last stages of editing my latest novel The Piano Boat before sending it to the printers. The book is set in 1987, in Ballinderry, Co. Tipperary, and my decision to write a story centred around the village was based on personal experience as I had visited the area many times with my family, having fallen for its breathtaking natural beauty. It was the backdrop of Lough Derg that brought all the elements of the story together as one. The Piano Boat takes in familiar landmark areas such as: Terryglass, O’Mearas Acres, Coolbaun, Dromineer forest, and the town of Birr. I found the subject matter very moving, and there are a few emotionally charged scenes from which I had to take a break while writing. All in all, it is a coming-of-age story, with a heartwarming ending.
